Week 2 Winners In The Hit Like A Girl Global Drumming Contest

2016 Victoria Seagriff

The Week 2 Winners in the Hit Like A Girl Global Drumming Contest are in and we’ve got three representatives from the US and one from Ireland. Contestants can enter until March 13, 2016.

2016 Victoria Seagriff

18+ Winners

Victoria Seagriff (United States) is a Berklee student who became interested in drums at a young age after seeing them in a Guitar Center catalogue. When not pursuing metal drumming she teaches drumline and martial arts.

2016 Megan Luce
Megan Luce of Los Angeles plays in church and loves to throw down rock, pop, and funk. She cites David Garibaldi, Matt Garstka, Tony Royster, Ronald Bruner Jr., and Emmanuelle Caplette as influences and is going to college to pursue drum performance.

Under 18 Winners

2016 Becca Webster
Rebecca Webster started playing at age 8, studying fundamentals for two years before playing songs. Now she is a house band leader at School of Rock and enjoying all aspects of performing and arranging. She says the polyrhythms in her demo tape are not what she usually plays but they inspire her to work on four-way independence.

2016 Sophie-drummer
Sophie Drummer is a nine-year old from Ireland who loves The Rev, Joey Jordison, Tre Cool, Mike Portnoy, Meytal Cohen and Anika Nilles. She says that last year she got to play on an Irish TV show with 1.5 million viewers. So the contest should not faze her.

Thanks again to our weekly judges Jonni Murphy of Alfred Publishing and Prudence Elliott of Yamaha. This week’s winners take home prizes including Evans heads, TRX splash cymbals, Cympads and Innovative sticks.

How The Judging Works

Each week until March 9 guest judges will pick two Under 18 and two 18+ winners to move on to the final round of judging. Additional wild cards may be chosen by sponsors and judges. Then from March 14-23 fans will have the chance to vote for their favorites. In the end a minimum of 20 finalists will be chosen in both age groups. The celebrity judges, which include Prince’s 3rdEyeGirl drummer Hannah Welton, jazz ace Kim Thompson, UK great Emily Dolan-Davies, Emmanuelle Caplette, the Summer Set’s Jess Bowen, Cuban star Yissy Garcia, Grammy-winner Terri Lyne Carrington, YouTube star Anika Nilles, Venzella Joy (also Beyonce), Kate Nash’s Alicia Warrington, Cherisse Osei of the Bryan Ferry band, and guest male judges Steve Smith of Journey fame and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, will announce winners on April 14, 2016 in a live webcast event.

Plenty Of Time To Enter

Entries in the contest are accepted up until March 13th. All you have to do is upload a video and bio and you’re in. Younger girls are required to submit parental consent forms (available at the site)
