Beats By Girlz empowers women, girls and gender expansive folks to engage with music technology. Their curriculum and community template enables students to create their own beats and compositions by using technology, including drum pads, drum machines, loop stations, computers and other electronic devices and software. They currently have over 20 chapters across the USA, Europe, Africa and Central America and are growing rapidly. HLAG will again be collaborating with BBG to offer a new Beat Making category for this year’s Hit Like A Girl contest. We are very excited about this addition to our contest.

HLAG + BBG 2021 is the fourth annual global drum programming contest for female beat makers. Its purpose is to spotlight female beat makers/producers and encourage females to engage in music technology. The event is produced by Hit Like A Girl Contest in partnership with Beats By Girlz and our activities are made possible by the generous support of our partners, Ableton, Novation, Native Instruments, Melodics, Teenage Engineering and Yamaha

NEW! Mini Contest

This year, Hit Like A Girl, Beats By Girlz and Melodics present the “Finger Drumming” Mini-Contest where Beatmaking contestants have additional opportunities to receive prizes, recognition and exposure. To be eligible in this mini-contest, film a video of yourself performing your Beat, upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and submit it along with your SoundCloud audio track. Don’t forget to check the “Melodics Finger Drumming Mini-Contest” box at the bottom of the Beatmaking entry form.

This contest has specific requirements which are detailed in the Special Contests section of this website. Participation in one or more of the mini-contests does not affect a contestant’s participation or eligibility in the main, pre-qualification, regional or public contests.
