Sheila Klotz

2020 Hit Like A Girl DrumSet Champion in the 40+ age division Sheila Klotz has a long history as an award-winning drummer. After starting to drum at 10-years old, she was the Maryland State Snare Drum Solo Champion at 12 and earned the title 3-years in a row. At age 15, she won the National Snare Drum Solo Champion.

Later, Sheila studied all areas of percussion at West Virginia University and, in her junior year, she auditioned for and won the Percussion position in The United States Air Force Band, Washington DC. For the next 12-plus years, she marched in countless parades and ceremonies at the White House, Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery as well as performances across the nation and abroad.

After leaving active duty to raise her 3-children, Sheila traded her drumsticks for the conductor’s baton— becoming the Commander of 257th Army Band in Washington, DC.

She retired from military service in 2015 and started working on something she never had the chance to fully explore: the drumset. For 4-years she hit the skins for hours a day and in 2020 she decided to enter Hit Like A Girl… and won.

Sheila endorses TRX Cymbals and WFLIII Drums, where she also serves as an Educator/Clinician. Her fast-growing SoMar Drummers Percussion Studio, is located in Southern Maryland, where she resides with her husband and children.
