New York drummer Madden Klass is a vibrant, multifaceted player with uncommonly varied influences. Inspired by the most demanding and exacting live drummers who have found success as band members, Madden has always seen her role as a player in the composition.
A current student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Madden challenges herself with eclectic and intensely progressive material, but her roots lie in her early fandoms: heavy rock, hip-hop, and pop. She recently took on the demanding opportunity of being the sole drummer on the Mike Doughty/Wheatus USA tour, where she performed the acclaimed Soul Coughing record, “Ruby Vroom” front to back as well as the Wheatus support set, which encompassed a repertoire loaded with tricky sticking & nuanced groove.
The project she dedicates a significant amount of time to is called, “Space Junk is Forever”. This is a keyboard driven prog-rock group featuring a Hammond B3, Rhodes, soaring guitar, precise bass lines and technically challenging drum parts with an emphasis on melody in regard to the cymbal arrangements.
Additionally, she is the drummer for Alternative/Indie group Raavi and the Houseplants who released their debut LP in December of 2019. Her role in the band consists of creating subtle yet unusual parts that lock in with the bassist and support the vocals, while keeping the emphasis on groove.
Madden currently endorses Meinl Cymbals, Ludwig Drums and Vic Firth sticks, TNR Products, and Big Fat Snare Drum
