Legendary drummer in the world of Argentine rock-pop, Andrea Alvarez achieved iconic status for being the absolute pioneer among female drummers in Argentina. She is known for having recorded as a session drummer and having played with Argentina’s biggest stars, such as Soda Stereo, Charly Garcia, Attaque 77, Natalia Oreiro, to name a few, and with equally famous international artists such as Tito Puente and Draco Rosa.
Always the innovator and a driving force, Alvarez also developed a solid solo career as a composer, singer, and producer of her own material. She has released four records as a solo artist, the last of which was nominated for the 2017 Latin Grammy in the Best Rock Record category. Throughout her career she has been recognized for her contributions as a female drummer by many entities, including receiving the prestigious 2015 Konex Award for “Best Female Rock Artist of the Decade.” Alvarez’s artistic future continues to look bright: she has a new record and several other high profile projects in the works soon to be revealed.
Alvarez has been a Paiste endorser since 1994. She also teaches drumming in her native Buenos Aires and is a fervent supporter and outspoken representative of issues of gender equality, especially as they affect women in the music industry.
