Finalists Announced In 2016 Hit Like A Girl Contest

The votes are in and the finalists in the Fifth Annual Hit Like A Girl Contest have been selected. Now, they’ll face the scrutiny of a panel of celebrity judges including Terri Lyne Carrington, Hannah Welton, Anika Nilles, Kimberly Thompson, Chad Smith, Steve Smith, Aaron Spears and more. Tune in to watch the live webcast of the 2016 Hit Like A Girl Awards Show on at 4:00 PM (PDT) on April 13, 2016 to see the winners crowned.

Under 18

There were 23 finalists chosen in the Under 18 category.

Over 18

There were 25 finalists chosen in the Under 18 category.

How The Judging Works

Finalists where chosen by three methods. First, during the entry period from February 1 to March 13, weekly winners were chosen by judges drawn from sponsoring drum, cymbal and media companies. Then from March 13 to March 27 fans voted to add an additional group of drummers to finalists’ ranks. And, then the sponsors used wild card votes to add a few more worthy contestants to the finals voting.

Who Are The Judges

The celebrity judges include 2016 Hit Like A Girl co-spokespersons Hannah Welton and Anika Nilles along with Kim Thompson, Emily Dolan-Davies, Emmanuelle Caplette, Jess Bowen, Karin Gandhi, Yissy Garcia, Terri Lyne Carrington, Senri Kawaguchi, Nia Lovelis, Allison Miller, Didi Negron, Venzella Joy, Alicia Warrington, Gina Schock, Mona Tavakoi, Cherisse Osei, Samantha Maloney, Kimberly Thompson, Val Sepulveda and guest judges Steve Smith, Aaron Spears and Chad Smith. 2015 HLAG Champs Lindsay Artkop and Kalonica Nicx will also participate as judges with the 2016 winners announced on a live webcast on on April 13, 2016 at 4:00 PDT.

Now in its fifth year, the Hit Like A Girl contest was started by DRUM!, Tom Tom and TRX with the aim of highlighting and promoting female drummers. Hundreds of girls and women of all ages and skill levels, and from more than 50 countries, have entered the contest over the past four years.
