Few things in life invigorate me more than playing drums.
This instrument has lit a fire in me… the more I play, the more I want to play.
I’ve been drumming on and off since my mid-teens, but in terms of consistent playing it’s been somewhere between three to four years. Watching my brother playing drums inspired me to get behind a kit for the first time (thanks, Matthew)! Since then, I have been teaching myself to play and am always looking for ways to push my musical boundaries.
My biggest drumming inspirations are the legendary John Bonham and the incredible Darren King from Mutemath. I love drummers that appear so ‘at one’ with their kit that every movement seems innate and organic. This is what I strive to emulate!
I play in a heavy alt-rock/hip hop band called Unlucky.
Having the opportunity to make and perform music (as well as challenging stereotypes) is something I am profoundly grateful for. One of my ambitions is to inspire other women to pick up an instrument, particularly one that is non-conventional. The beauty of music is its universal nature; any human can create music which resonates with the listener.
In the wise words of Anthony Kiedis: “Music, the great communicator.”
