When I was in high school, I used to sneak in to the music room at break times – we weren’t allowed in there on breaks but I’d have done anything just to play the drums for 5 minutes! 15 years later and I’m lucky enough to be studying music performance and drums full time.
After leaving school I gigged regularly and played in various bands, including Blues, Ska and Metal. I also saved up to study with Gregg Bissonette (a huge inspiration) for a few days in California at ‘Groove camp’ in 2013. I was self taught up until this point and had mostly learned from YouTube and just sitting in with bands and playing along.
After years of working various jobs and fitting my drumming in around this (it always comes first!), I decided to apply to college to study music full time in 2015. In 2016 I won student of the year for music after creating the Edinburgh college percussion society and teaching beginner’s and fellow students. I’m now almost finished my second year!
I have many inspirations, including Chris Coleman, Kaz Rodriguz, Mark Mondesir, Didi Negron, Jojo Mayer, Danny Seraphine, Anika Nilles and Scott Pellegrom. There are way too many to mention but those drummers have absolutely inspired me.
