If you told me a year ago that I’d be the drummer in a rock band (at age 48), I would have thought it crazy. Drumming is a dream come true! I started playing less than a year ago – and it’s quickly become the highlight of my day.
I’m a long-time hobby musician. My first love was jazz clarinet. I also play saxophone and piano. For the past 30 years, I have played in concert bands, trios, wind ensembles, and a swing jazz band. I started dabbling on my husband’s kit last year, and within 2 weeks, I was completely hooked. I wanted to play all the time and learn, learn, learn. I studied with local drum teacher, Chelsea Lee, as well as world-record-holder Mike “Machine” Mallais. And of course, my highly experienced drummer husband served as my ongoing mentor.
Most recently, I discovered that I should be playing on a lefty kit (I was settling for a hybrid setup). This video is my first ever left-handed drum cover! I can’t wait to tackle more songs and to continue exploring the world of drumming.
