Name: Anastasia Mary Chieng
I am Anastasia, 13 years old and I hail from sunny Singapore. My interest in drumming began when I was ten years old – I was given a pre-loved drum set by a relative and I have not looked back since. Some of my favorite musicians that I love drumming to are Linkin Park, Maroon 5, Bruno Mars and Bon Jovi.
I have also participated in several major events such as the Purple Parade, Mid-Autumn Festival, Club Rainbow Dream Seeds Programme and the Very Special Arts (VSA). These events celebrate the lives and skills of children with special needs and disabilities. I have a hearing impairment in my right ear as well as a heart condition called Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) but that has not deterred me from picking up drumming, along with the electone and violin.
I embody what Hit Like A Girl stands for – musically inclined and empowered. I do not let life’s curve balls define who I am; I take life by the horns and I throw myself passionately into the world of drumming. Drumming has now become an integral part of my life and I am very grateful to my mom who encourages and supports me in my passion.
