Yun-Chen Chou

Yun-Chen Chou is a first-year undergraduate student studying with Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, and Christopher Deane at University of North Texas College of Music.

Born in Taiwan, she started to learn to play the piano in elementary school. In seventh grade, she played with the school wind ensemble as a percussionist. Yun-Chen won the first place in Taipei World Percussion Championship marimba competition in 2014; third place in National Student Competition of Music marimba category in 2015. Feeling a sense of accomplishment, she decided to strengthen her musicianship and went to the Taichung Municipal Cingshuei Senior High School Music Gifted Class to major in Percussion Performance.

Continuing her studies as a musician, Yun-Chen decided to study in the States. In 2018, she got offered into New England Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory, and her final choice, UNT College of Music. Yun-Chen plans to pursue her Master’s Degree and become a professional solo marimbist.
