Hello, my name is Stephanie, and I’ve been playing the drums for 2 years! I have loved music for as long as I can remember, and especially drums.
When my husband and I got married I now had a concert buddy, so we go to a lot of concerts. At the end of each one I would talk about how amazing it was and how much I would love to learn drums. It took a car accident, some health problems, and several surgeries as motivation to finally jump in with both feet. I bought a used beginner kit, to see if I would be able to learn, because I knew it was not easy. After about six months of trying to teach myself I figured out "hey, I’m actually learning to play the drums!". I eventually upgraded to a different used kit.
Around this time, a touring and recording drummer that I’d seen live at multiple concerts (and was very impressed with) posted that he was offering lessons via videoconferencing. Enter Pat Gerasia! Pat has been my drum teacher for the last year and a half. We have an online lesson about every 4-6 weeks. When we have the opportunity, I do drum workshops and spend several hours live in person with Pat. My drumming has really improved with him as my teacher, so much so that I have recorded my first drum video for this contest!
What drummers inspire me, besides my drum teacher? The usual suspects are: Taylor Hawkins, Dave Grohl, Mike Portnoy. Jen Ledger is amazing, also Per Andreasson, Rick Allen and Barry Kerch just to name a few. This list could really go on forever!
