My name is Itzel, I'm 23 years old and I'm a drummer and musician. Born in the city of Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca, in Mexico.
My journey through music starts at the age of 11 when I had my first guitar lessons ever, funny thing about this is that I almost always sneaked into the drum classes in the Music Academy I was, I really enjoyed watching that, it was really interesting for me but for some reasons I kept going to the gtr lessons. A year after trying to learn guitar I decided to give into the drums, I changed the instrument and I was the happiest girl on earth.
After 6 months of drum lessons, I thought, as the little & naive girl I was, "This is so easy for me, I can do it without a teacher, I don't need help for this, blah blah blah" but, as much as I knew that lots of drummers learned by themselves, I had no idea that an ability like that wasn't at its 100% in me. I gave up to the lessons, bought a drum kit and started to play a long the music I like: Guns N' Roses, Metallica, RHCP, etc
All my friends and classmates had in their mind the goal to be doctors, architects, engineers, etc but since my first contact with drums I knew I wanted to be a musician and dedicate my life and soul to it, but it was all in my mind cause I sold my drum kit, I didn't played drums again, I took gtr lessons at high school (again)... I didn't do much to achieve what I had in my mind, it was sad and I only took a step forward when I started looking for Music Schools in LA, I wanted to study in the city that saw the birth of my fav band. After looking for lots of school I finally decided to apply for Musician Institute, they accepted me, I was so happy... until I saw the tuitions. My heart broke but that didn't stop me either, I searched for music schools in Mexico City and I found Fermatta Academy. I applied, they accepted me and 4 years ago started my way there: Degree in Music Performance.
Nowadays, already graduated from university, I proudly say "I made it! I'm not inly a drummer, but I'm also a professional musician"
** The video I'm sending you is from my last recital of my career at Fermatta Academy, I had to assemble the musician and directed them ** All the equipment used in the video (except the drumsticks) are property of the school ** Unfortunately, to this day, I do not own a drum kit **
