Siobhán Angeles

Hello! I’m Siobhán and this is the third year I’ve participated in the Hit Like a Girl contest. I’m a 17-year-old high school junior in Orange County, California.

I started piano lessons at age five. My first choice was the drums, but my parents insisted I get a foundation in music through piano. I stuck with it, and ten years later I passed the highest level of the Certificate of Merit (CM) program run by the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC).

I’ve been fascinated by drumming since I could remember. My parents tell me that I’ve been drumming since I could reach for pots and pans. My dad bought me my first real drum kit when I was four, but I had to wait till I was big enough to reach the kick pedal. Finally, at age seven, I started drum lessons. For the last 10 years I’ve been practicing and performing live with bands through the Music Factory’s school of rock program. Once I made it to high school, I joined winter drumline and was snare my freshman and sophomore year.

In addition to drums and piano, I play alto sax and dabble in guitar. Other musical activities I do in my free time include playing sax for the South Coast Youth Symphony Orchestra and Saddleback College’s Jazz combos and playing piano in volunteer recitals at retirement homes.

In my video, I’m on the kit jamming to “Geek U.S.A.” by The Smashing Pumpkins.

P.S. Thanks a bunch to all of my teachers and my parents for supporting me in my musical journey!
