My drumming experience started at 10-years old, with a local majorette & drum corps. I played rudimental snare and got pretty good at it. Once I got to college, I learned all the other percussion instruments. I got good, but not nearly as well as I could play rudimental...but I did discover that I loved the drumset. I got a job in a military band, playing ceremonies and concerts for about 30-years. I retired from the National Guard about 4-years ago (but I don't get the retirement pay until I'm 60 - almost there tho!). Although I love playing drumset, I never had the time needed to become really great. So after I retired from the Guard, I realized that I finally have the time to practice hard on my 20+ year old set! Once I saw this year's contest dates, I saved my pennies to pay for a really nice recording studio - to have something my kids would keep & share with their family down the road. I had extra time in the studio, & was asked, "Anything else you want to get on tape?" Maybe I can add 1 more. He said "Let's do it". And I was able to get a 2nd song recorded. My son took the videos on my phone and I did my best to line up video & audio in iMovie. I hope combining the 2-songs is permitted.
Thank you for the incredible platform for girl drummers - OF ALL AGES!
