Samantha (Sa5m) Lobsinger
Samantha, or Sa5m as she likes to be called is 10 years old, in grade 5, and lives in Waterloo, Ontario Canada. She has been playing the drums for 18 months now and this is her second time entering the Hit Like A Girl Contest. Sa5m has 2 older sisters and 1 younger sister.
Sa5m idolizes Mr. Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters. He is Sa5m's favourite drummer and her hero. Sa5m's bedroom walls are covered in pictures of Mr. Hawkins. She hopes to one day be almost as great a drummer as he is and play in a band that is as good as Foo Fighters. Sa5m's song choice for this year's contest was because she found a video on YouTube of Mr. Hawkins playing this song when he was 14 at a highschool band showcase.
Other drummers Sa5m follows are Mr. David Grohl, Mr. Neil Peart, Mr. Roger Taylor and Mr. Chad Smith.
Sa5m began playing the drummers weeks before her 9th birthday. Her reason for taking up the drums is very special. Sa5m's younger sister has been battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer named Neuroblastoma for almost 4 years. She is a huge Mr. David Grohl and Foo Fighter fan and the person that actually introduced Sa5m to Foo Fighters. Sa5m was determined to learn to play Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters for her sister so she could feel like she is at an actual Foo Fighter concert.
Despite the cold winters we get in Southern Ontario, Sa5m is in the garage almost an hour a night every night practicing (thank you to our neighbours for being so understanding). Temperature permitting, her younger sister is out there as well listening. She is Sa5m's biggest fan.
In July 2018 Sa5m, her 3 sisters (all Foo Fighter fans) got the chance to go to a Foo Fighter in concert in Toronto. It was one of the greatest nights of our families lives. Seeing their favourite band perform live and the show they put on, simply amazing.
