Hi! My name is Samantha and I trained at LIPA (Paul McCartneys school in Liverpool). I graduated back in 2011 with a BA (Hons) Degree in music and upon graduating I was awarded the Zildjian prize. Since then, I have been gigging non stop with various artists and bands nationally and internationally. I am currently based in the UK in North London.
In 2019 I had an accident whilst shooting a music video with my band, BABYTEETH. I fainted mid shoot and smashed my head on a concrete wall and blacked out on the floor. I had a small bleed in my head which resulted in me having 6 months worth of physio as my reaction time to my right leg was 10 seconds and my left leg was 5 seconds. Over the course of the last 2 years, with the help of all my family and friends, I have been rebuilding my confidence and strength so that I can play the drums comfortably again. I have had to be very careful during my recovery as the doctors told me that having the extensive noise and vibrations going through my body was very dangerous.
During the pandemic I have been building up my online teaching and getting myself set up properly in my studio in North London. I met Kaz (Rodriguez) at the studio and asked him if he would mentor me. His guidance has been completely invaluable and has helped me get my playing back to where it was before I had my head injury. I now feel like 2021 is my time.
So here it is. My Hit Like a Girl entry. I hope you enjoy my performance. Turn it up, LOUD.
