My name is Roseanna Gray and I am 14 years old. I live in England in a beautiful town called Malvern and I have played the drums nearly all my life. My dad is a professional musician and has taught me the drums since the age of 3. I have grown up around the drums and I am very passionate about my hobby. At the age of 8, I became the youngest person ever to pass grade 8 Trinity Rock and Pop drums with distinction. I then went onto Blue Peter and ITV News playing my own compositions at the age of 9. I like to record my drumming naturally without quantising it, as I believe that more naturalistic music playing will be the next direction music moves in. Drumming is my main instrument and I also play percussion, snare drum, piano and I sing. My favourite drummer is Buddy Rich and I love to experiment with fill-ins similar to his ones. I believe that female drummers are just as capable as male drummers and I think it’s very important to recognise this, and inspire as many girls as possible to play the drums. I go to an all girls’ school, where female empowerment is part of our every day ethos. As well as music, I also love academic subjects including English, maths, Latin and history. I hope to inspire many girls of different ages to play the drums, as we are capable of doing anything if we put our minds to it. Due to COVID I haven’t had access to an acoustic drum kit so I have been practising on my electronic drum kit. I hope you enjoy my entry, Jump by Van Halen!
