My name is Rebekah Rayner and I’m a 23 year old drummer based in London. I first picked up the drums when I was 6 years old and have not been able to keep away since. My influences include Dave Weckl, Anika Niles, Benny Greb and Stanley Randolph.
My musical history has included a lengthy education in classical percussion at Junior Guildhall, numerous Jazz bands and contemporary/pop bands. My varied education has given me the opportunity to perform at many prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre.
I’ve chosen to upload the Dave Weckl’s track “Island Magic” because he has been a huge inspiration to me for several years. I’ve always been fascinated by the way he can play the most complex track, swapping between 7/8 and 4/4 with ease, whilst painting a story with his dynamic range. It feels as though he truly understands the music and what it wants from the drums. This performance has been made possible by a combination of passion and support from my family and I am beyond thankful. I played this track alongside three talented musicians, adding our own individualistic character to the track whilst keeping the magic.
Hit Like A Girl has not only given me the chance to compete alongside so many amazing women, but hopefully it will give me a platform to inspire others.
