Rasila Queen

Hi,everybody! I like to use my stage name, Queenie, because it's easier to pronounce. Since I am over 70 years, I fall into the category of Lost woman drummers, because growing up we were discouraged from and even denied the opportunity to study drumming. Thankfully, many of us came around and began to learn how to play drums in middle life or even later. That is one reason why I was so excited whento support first learned about this contest. This will be my 6th or 7th year tp enter. I am very proud and thankful to support this contest that has helped so many women advance in their drumming careers.

My favorite genres of music are classic rock, blues, R&B, and I am working on Latin and jazz. Some of my drum heroes are Evelyn Glennie, Karen Carpenter, Sam Ulano, and all the teachers and mentors at Drummergirls United and Drumeo. I have played in a few local bands, and I go to jams and backyard music parties. My husband and I are a good team because he plays guitar and bass. He has taught me a lot about music.

My favorite kit is my Pearl Rhythm Traveler because it is small and easy to transport and sounds good. I also like having my LP jam block and my El Sabor Salsa Splash and Remo heads to bang on.

I chose this song because I heard it on the radio and fell in love with it. I am playing to the karaoke version with drums removed. I made it my own by adding the block to the beginning and much more tom work than the original.
I wish you all a great journey with this contest
