Hello! My name is Paige Durr! I am a 26 year old and currently reside in the DFW area. I am a Percussion Specialist for the North Mesquite Cluster. I am also the drummer for Six the Musical on the Norwegian Bliss...can't wait too get back to work once cruises start up again!
The marching arts has always been a large part of my life. I was in marching band all four years in high school. Then, once I went to college at JMU, being in a marching band with 500 people was life changing. I just didn't expect to grow so much as a musician through the other members and instructors of the drumline. I then stayed on at JMU as a Graduate Assistant where I was given the opportunity to arrange and teach at a higher level. Those experiences really pushed me to become the musician and educator I am today.
The song I chose to cover is "The Schuyler Sisters" from Hamilton the Musical. This musical means so much to me. First off, seeing representation of BIPOC in the cast and pit speaks a lot to young performers of color. I also had to opportunity to arrange the percussion parts for a Hamilton Medley in 2017 for JMU. This song in particular has many meanings, but some that speak to me are women empowerment and the joy of being alive. I know 2020 has been a hard year for a lot of us due to covid, illness, and losing the change to perform. But I am thankful to just be alive.
I hope you enjoy my cover over this bop of a song!
