Ophélie Luminati

I'm a French girl drummer, I have 24 years and actually I live in Montreal and I travel to discover the world with my little drum set. I started the drums when I was 14, I studied in university of Mirail and conservatoire de Toulouse in jazz. I played with a lot of bands in different styles; The ashbury girls(pop rock), La théorie des cordes(rock prog), Jenifer Machine(électro), Chicxulub(brass band), le bardi manchot(jazz trad), Times new woman(jazz), Honky tong(jazz trad), Benny's jungle(swing), Raphael Tristan quartet(jazz). I recorded several albums with some of these bands and play a lot in different country. I'am passionate about jazz, and particularly about the old scool jazz, like new orleans and swing(1900's 1940's). I spent a lot of time researching how the drummers were playing at that time because it's hard to understand the playing about the recordings of times, and I developpe this playing with le bardi manchot. I have just come back from a trip to the new orleans that helped me develop this playing even more.
In the drums, I like the nuances, the colors, the energy, the creativity and the intention, I like when the drums are at the service of music and sublime it. My drummers heroes are Steve gadd, Gene Krupa, Philly Jo Jones, Jo Jones, Elvin Jones, Buddy Rich, Sonny Payne........

  1. Excellent. Love hearing jazz in this competition. Nice ride cymbal technique. That was a quick tempo and you kept it swinging without muscle fatigue. Very impressive!
