Nesshi Lewi Feder
Hi! My name is Nesshi. I am 13 years old and studying in 7th grade in Israel. Music is my life – it is what heals me and makes me happy. I have been playing drums since I was 10 years old. I also play drums and percussion in a youth orchestra in my town and study with Yair Smoilov. My secondary instruments are guitar and bass guitar, but drums are my main passion. I like all the music in the world but the styles I like the most are world music, African and ethnic music. I chose to play in the contest a song by my favorite Israeli band – “Yemen Blues” which combines African and Middle-Eastern rhythms.
My love for music started at a very early age. My parents used to take me with them to music festivals when I was a baby. As a small child, I was always dancing and when my parents were playing music at home I liked very much to bang on our Djembe drum even though I was the same height as the drum. When I got a little older, I decided that I wanted to play the drums, which was my dream. I asked my parents to get me a drum set and after some hesitation, one day I showed up home and they had bought me one.
Last year I lived for a year in the US and I was lucky to start lessons with a great drummer, her name is Cami Mennitte and she has been my teacher since. Cami made me aware of the HLAG competition and encouraged me to apply.
