Greetings! My name is Mindee Jorgensen, and I have been a drummer for 21 years. Drumming has helped me through so many difficult times in my life and given me purpose and direction. Drumming has instilled in me confidence and gave me the courage to move from Sioux Cit,y IA to Los Angeles, CA to pursue my musical dreams. Because of my dedication and hard work, I have been blessed with touring the world and preforming in a band with one of my personal favorite drummers, Dale Crover.
I had a very tragic childhood, losing my mother to suicide at the age of 4. The trauma I suffered has stayed with me my whole life, and added extra hurdles to my growth as a person. It stunted my social development and left me with self worth issues and deep emotional wounds. The effects of this tragedy was extra hard as I reached puberty.
Luckily, this was also the time when I officially became a drummer (although I remember having a fascination and love of drums as early as 6.) After playing Saxophone from fifth to ninth grade, I was able to convince the band teacher to let me take a shot at the drums. I began playing bass drum in the drum line and fell in love instantly. I was extra driven and quickly caught up to the other drummers in learning my rudiments. I was able to play in jazz band that year and once I began playing the set I knew I would be doing this for the rest of my life. I joined a local drum line that would tour the Midwest in the summer, playing parades and festivals.
I was someone what of an isolated child. I didn't have many friends and was very anxious. Through joining the drum line and working with other drummers I was gaining social interactions that I desperately needed and learning social skills that I had yet to develop. I was also gaining the self confidence that I lacked during my school days.
After high school I was able to form my first band, a punk rock group called Forever Donkey. There has not be a period of time since then that I have not been in at least 1 band. Often I am in 2 or more.
I have been playing ever since and I am tenacious about never giving up on my dreams of making music as a full time career. I have been in over 25 bands, toured 16 countries, and been a part of numerous recordings. I currently preform with the Los Angeles based punk band Dangerously Sleazy, Los Angeles based post-punk dance band ModPods, and I play drums in The Dale Crover Band, solo project of the talented Melvins drummer.
I have been living in Los Angeles the past 9 years, and also give drum lessons. The majority of my students are female and I am so proud. Seeing them mastering a new beat and developing their person style brings me so much joy and excitement.
I love all styles of music and strive to be a well rounded drummer. Although I primarily play in rock groups, I have also played jazz, blues, metal, concert band and orchestra, and enjoy writing electronic beats.
Drums are my therapy and meditation. They bring me peace and emotional balance. They are my purpose and focus. They truly are my number one passion in life.
