Michelle Pickering

I am originally from Canada, and came to the US when I was 17 to pursue music and more opportunities. And better weather! I started playing drums when I was 14, after attending a music school from grades 4-8 playing the viola and singing in a church choir, which nurtured my love and appreciation for the beauty and therapy in music of all kinds.
I was soon drawn to the heavy metal genre, which was almost completely devoid of females and very challenging, in a good way. The technical demands and endurance required to play this style is STILL very challenging to me to this day, a few years later 😉 but it is extremely fun and I think even with the intimidation of the ridiculous speed and talent of my peers have that constantly has me feeling unworthy, I enjoy the motivation it gives me to always strive to improve my playing. There will never be a time when I will feel like I have reached my peak. Although it is difficult, the small steps of progress I make (soooo slowly it seems) are very rewarding.
I currently play in 2 metal bands in Los Angeles, Heavy Justice and Nightsword that are both currently recording new cd releases and keeping me on my toes. I am a grandmother of 5 and enjoying my life more than I could ever have imagined. Thank you for your time and consideration, this is such a great opportunity for the women of drumming to get together and appreciate each other! I am sure many great relationships will result from your contest, and your company.

I have been a fan of Michelle’s since the 80’s. I used to be her drum tech. One show in particular one of her legs on her right luck drum gave or and I lashed on me my stomach the entire show holding her bass drum in place so she could finish the show. The crowd did not even know and Michelle came out and finished like a champ..
