I am Mia Garfin from Los Angeles. I am 11 years old. I am passionate about music and I’ve been playing drums since I was 5 years old. When I was in preschool, I loved watching a TV show called The Fresh Beat Band, which was about 4 best friends who attended music school together. One of the characters was a redheaded female drummer and I told my parents that I wanted to be just like her! I started taking lessons in kindergarten. My first teacher was a really cool young female drummer and I was hooked! Since her I have had amazing teachers who have continued to push me, inspire me and make it fun. Drums has always been a great way for me to express myself through music and rhythm and of course, performing! Through my music school, Join the Band, I started playing in a band and I play at venues around LA. I have performed songs from Queen, Paramore, No Doubt, Green Day, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. I play in a band with 2 other people including my older sister, who sings and plays the guitar/piano. Playing live music is exciting for me and I love pounding the drums and setting the tempo for our band. I love performing and hearing my friends/family cheer for me. Working on perfecting a beat and learning fills for a new song is the best challenge! I recently started learning to play jazz and look forward to playing in my schools’ jazz band. Playing the drums is a huge part of my life and I cannot wait to see what else drumming will bring me.
