Hit Like A Girl.
My name is Matilda Taylor, I am twelve years old and I live in Orange, NSW, Australia. I play the drums because it is what I love, it’s who I am, it’s what I want to do for a job and through my playing I get to make people happy. I wanted to play drums from the age of 6 when I saw a performance of a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song “Rollercoaster” at a school concert. Ever since then I have loved learning, playing and performing. I love playing metal and punk, I also play jazz, and reggae.
I enrolled at the Police Citizen Youth Club percussion class and private drum lessons at the age of 7 and won the Orange Police Citizen Youth Club Percussion scholarship a year later. I joined the Police Citizen Youth Club Rock Band Project at the age of 9 and performed my first live gig at the age of ten at the Orange jam night, supported by two of my music teachers.
I started playing with the Bletchington Public School Junior Band at the age of 8 and progressed to the senior band by the age 10. Six months later I was selected as the lead drummer for the Bletchington Public School Senior Concert Band. I was selected as the lead drummer and percussionist for the Regional Combined Public School Concert Band at the age of 11 and got to perform at the Sydney Botanical Gardens. I am currently involved in the Orange High School Choir, Drum Corp, Stage band and Rock Band. I also play in a rock band called “The Blindly Led Youth”. My roles include drummer, lead vocalist and rhythm guitar.
I love playing the drums loud and fast and I hope that one day I will be one of the world’s top drummers. I would love to play like Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), Arejay Hale (Halestorm), John Dolmayan (System of a down) and Tre Cool (Green day), these guys rock!
I love playing fast and load and that’s why I played Chop Suey by System Of A Down in my video. This song is awesome to play and I love it!
I wish all of the girls in this competition the best of luck. You are all awesome females, hit them hard!
