Marcy Kimanzi is a female drummer & percussionist born in Nairobi, Kenya. She has grown her skills through emphasis on defined strokes and rhythmic grooves that come from a background of love for afro music.
She started playing the drum set in high school and later formed a band with her three friends while studying at the University of Nairobi. Later she joined local bands which have been helping her grow musically through performances, networking, teamwork as well as diversifying her musical capabilities.
Marcy draws her inspiration from her family, and the likes of Mindy Obvitz, Kasiva Mutua, Anika Niles and Sabu Satsha. She cites listening to afro jazz, afro-funk, african rhythms and contemporary gospel as having influenced her music and the way she plays and would love to play with Joyous Celebration.
She aims to inspire girls and make them venture into careers that have been traditionally known as male-dominated. Her desire is to impact lives and share her faith by playing the drums. In addition to this, she has aspirations of establishing a music academy to teach as well as spread the gospel through it.
