Hello, my name is Louise Honeyman and I am 16 years old from the UK.
At the age of 7 years I picked up a pair of drum sticks and began taking drum lessons as I had always wanted to play them since I can remember. Even from when I was very young I was always fascinated and intrigued by the drummers that were in bands on the TV and live performances, I’m not exactly sure why but it encouraged me enough to want to play the drums. It was just this urge inside me that was itching to play them.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to be a finalist in Young Drummer of the Year 2018 competition in the UK. It was a great experience and being the only female drummer made it that much more exciting.
I am very open-minded and I strive each day to learn and immerse myself in different styles of music not to just improve my playing as an individual but my playing as a musician with other musicians. As for my goals for the future I hope to be able to create and produce music in a variety of ways and to keep improving my playing to become a better version of myself and a better musician overall. Also, to enjoy myself and have fun along the way as well. My drum influences include: Anika Nilles, Benny Greb, Jojo Mayer, Dennis Chambers, Mark Guiliana, Gavin Harrison, Nate Smith and Jost Nickel.
In my video, I have chosen Ain’t No Other Man by Christina Aguilera because I think it is such a powerful song and it is really fun to play along to. Since the song is so fast it took some time for me to adjust to the speed when I took it into the practice room. However, I like to challenge myself as I believe it’s a great way to improve my playing and understanding of music.
