Hey guys! I'm Katie and I'm a junior at Holliston High School in Massachusetts. This is now my third year entering the HLAG contest; I was a finalist these past two years and the SoR recipient in 2018. I've been a drummer since I was eight years old (shoutout to Mr. A, wherever you are) and my passion since has only grown. Originally I was a student - and later on a teacher - at the Drummer's Studio in Franklin, MA, where I learned everything from the history of jazz to how to orchestrate fills. Just two years ago I became a member of SoR in Natick, where I have been applying my skills in a performance-driven environment. Outside of drumming, my life consists of being a captain on the varsity volleyball team, a track athlete, a member of NHS, a part of our school's advanced choir ensemble, and lots of singing/piano. I also like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain.
My first concert I ever went to was the Rush Clockwork Angel tour in 2012. I was amazed at how talented each member was and how perfectly their music blended into one sound. When I was ten years old I would try to air drum Tom Sawyer in the shower (I also thought I was amazing…I was not). It was actually Neil Peart that inspired me to learn drums, and when he passed away in January, I decided I wanted to do a tribute in his memory for my song this year. He has, and will always, be my musical inspiration.
