I am 66yrs old. I didn't sit behind a drum kit until I was 35. This video is of our band "RELENTLESS" rehearsing for the 1st time after 9 months! We were all excited. My daughter is the Singer and our dream for years has been to have a band together. We both love the band Survivor and this video is of their song, "Didn't Know It Was Love". I am playing a 6pc Pearl Export with a Trixon Hand Hammered Copper Snare. All the cymbals are A Custom Zildjian with Zildjian New Beat Hi Hats and Zildjian S Trash Crashes.
The impact I try to make is to make sure people know that No one has the right to tell you that you can't pursue a talent or a passion. My ex husband (who was a drummer and should have understood), did not want me to play the drums. He didn't like me to practice so of course I never got any lessons. Then one day, he took his drums and stored them at the church we all attended so that I couldn't "get" to them. I went and bought my own kit on layaway and when I brought them home and set them up, he tried to un-set them. I told him not to touch my drums and of course that was the beginning of the end of the marriage. So, when I see girls playing any instrument, I am happy that someone has supported and encouraged them and not hindered them from expressing their talent and creativity. Times have changed and I am grateful for that!
