Jennifer Towns

Hi! I am a 44 year old (actually just turned 45 yesterday!) new drummer from Upstate NY. My “day” job is an HR Manager, but every free chance I have outside of work, I can’t wait to sit down at the drum set! I actually took drumming lessons for a short time about 20 years ago, (when I was in my 20’s), but I never kept going with it, pretty much convincing myself that I would not be successful. Almost 20 years later, about a year and a half ago, I finally decided to let myself scratch the drumming itch again, and I am SO glad I gave it another try! With the help of a great drum teacher and the support of my family and friends, I am now really starting to learn, improve, and develop a true passion for drums. It is So. Much. Fun.

My video is me playing to a drumless track called “The Meters’ Funk” from Minus Drums - Blues in the Pocket. My favorite thing to play is anything with a solid groove, and this has definitely got it! Hope you enjoy it as much as I had fun playing to it, and I would really love and appreciate any feedback that can be offered. Thanks for this opportunity to participate in such a wonderful contest!

Great sound & beat. !1 Wondering how you record with studio effect and make it come out so clear. I’m having hard time recording without sounding like total background noise.? Thank you

    • Hi Pammy – I was excited about how my recording turned out. My drum kit is set up in a pretty wide open space in my house, and I was worried about reverb. My drum teacher helped me get set up to record – each drum was individually mic’d (Shure), and we used two overhead mikes. Logic was the recording software used (Apple). Something a little weird happened with two of the tom mikes (they sound much softer), but I was really super-pleased overall with the sound! Thanks:)

  9. Jennifer – that was a funky DEEE-LITE! Reminded me that the “Groove is in the Heart” 🙂 R-
