Jennifer Towns

Hi - my name is Jennifer Towns and I am thrilled to be entering this year's Hit Like a Girl contest! I've been drumming for about three years now, and what started out as a fun hobby has of course evolved into an all-out obsession (and I wouldn't want it any other way!!) I really enjoy continuing to build my skills as I keep working at this, and my hope is to one day play for a live audience... the thought of which both excites and terrifies me at the same time! I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to record my drumming in a local studio last month on an original song - it was so wonderful to be able to do experience something like that after a relatively short time playing. Can't wait to see what the future brings...

My entry this year is me playing to a really odd and quirky drumless track called "Right, Now" which was created by Wilbe. I wrote these drum parts and I am proud of how it all collectively turned out. Hope you enjoy it!

Wow, Jen you have really progressed in one year! And the fact that it was an original and you had to create your own design from scratch is very impressive. I was somewhat mesmerized by the highhat stuff. Great job.I wish there was a prize for most improved as many of us enter every year.

Thanks so much! I’ve been working away at it, little by little:) I love the little rolls on the hi-hat – one of my favorite parts!

Hi, I love your entry song! The xylophone (?) adds to much. Would you let me know the name and composer when time? Thanks a bunch. Good Luck!

    • Jtowns7497 on March 9, 2021 at 12:49 pm

Thanks! I found it out on Spotify on a drumless track playlist – the track name is “Right, Now” and it was created by Wilbe. I thought it was cool-sounding and unusual, and that it would be a good challenge for me to work on for this contest. Agree the xylophone sound adds a neat vibe…

That was so much fun to watch!

Wow! You’ve really improved your technique so much in one year. That seems like a very intricate piece to perform.

    Well done!

    (nice video effects too)

Thanks! Some things are getting easier and more comfortable, while other things are still difficult and awkward, but I guess it’s always like that no matter what learning stage you’re in. When you can take something that’s difficult and awkward, work on it, and make it easy and comfortable, well, that’s what it’s all about!!

I had a look at a few videos today and yours was the one I felt deserved my vote. I like the off beat feel and thought your drumming complimented the track really nicely.
    regards, Martin from the UK.
