Isabelle De Leon
Music has been in Isabelle's blood since before she was born. Growing up in a musical family, she began piano lessons at age 4, and eventually picked up the drums at age 7, which quickly became her favorite and main instrument. Soon after, she heard someone say "girls don't play the drums," and has worked to defy that ever since. She spent most of her youth playing at church on the weekends, in school concert bands and orchestras, and with her sisters' Pop/Rock band at bars, street festivals, and Filipino American events. Their most recent group, Ivy Rose, would go on to produce 2 full length albums, tour the Philippines, and make it to Las Vegas on America's Got Talent. Having started songwriting at age 13, she became one of the main songwriters/arrangers for Ivy Rose, and today co-writes with many of her bands. She studied jazz performance and pre-medicine at the University of Maryland, and simultaneously began freelancing with other artists around the DMV area. From 2012-2013 she was a Strathmore Artist-in-Residence, which launched her solo career as a band leader. Currently, she is the band leader, writer and drummer for hip-hop/funk group IZA FLO; drummer & writer for Prinze George; and touring drummer for Madame Gandhi, Paperwhite, and more. In 2020, she toured with Oprah Winfrey as a percussionist with opening act, Daybreaker. When not performing, Isabelle gives virtual drum lessons to students all over the world.
