Ingrid de Beer

My love of drumming was originally inspired by curiosity & mischief. When I was about twelve years old my brother had an emerald green drum kit that he wasn’t too keen on sharing with his little sister. So whenever he left the house I would sneak into his room to try mimic what I had heard him playing. After a few months (of kicking his ass at grooving) our parents encouraged me to find a tutor, and so I spent my high school years blissfully practising & playing as often as our neighbours would tolerate.

Today my love of drumming is inspired by the 9 years that followed high school. You see, I got caught up pursuing a degree and a career that allowed very little time for drumming. Eventually a part of me that once so strongly identified as being a musician started eroding away- and that felt awful. So for the past three years I’ve been practising before work, after work, and weekends…and it feels great! The benefits are endless- my mind is sharper, my soul is at ease, and my passion for “laying down the groove” is reignited!

Thanks for listening to my original song “Tom Strut”, and thanks to my wonderful friends (Dean, Jimmy, and Josh) who made it/played it with me.

Very musical drumming. Cool song and you were in the groove. I liked your use of the hi hats off the beats instead of on the beats.
