I started playing drums when my friend had a birthday party at Guitar Center; the party was a private drum lesson. I was only 7 but my parents thought they saw a spark and I loved it. They enrolled me in a conservatory that offered drum lessons, but after a year, my teacher left the school and I switched to School of Rock; it changed my life.
The first song I learned to play was Lick it Up by KISS and they are now my favorite band. I have seen them in concert four times and even caught Eric Singer's drum stick at the Houston concert last year! He is my favorite drummer and I love watching him play Black Diamond.
At School of Rock, I started in Rock 101, moved into Performance and have done 7 shows so far. I also take bass guitar lessons and vocals; I was the first person at Katy's School of Rock to play drums and sing lead vocals at the same time in a show.
I have played piano since I was 4 and am a percussionist in my junior high band. I also sing in the school choir. Additionally, I am a year-round competitive swimmer.
Music runs in my family. When he realized I was serious about drums, my grandpa gave me his original drum set from 1966; he was the drummer in a "big band" style group. My dad got the drums reskinned and I play them at home every day.
I love drumming because there aren't a lot of rules and they help me escape from reality. I feel so happy when I play. I am going to be a rock star when I'm older.
