I'm Eva Whitbread. I briefly started drumming at the age of 5, but seriously started at the age of 11. Since starting High school I have been in the jazz band, percussion ensemble, orchestra and concert band.
I started drumming because of Anthony from the Wiggles. I met him at my parents' bicycle store and looked up to him when I was a kid. This led me to getting guitar and drum lessons. When my dad took me to my first concert at the age of 4 to see Linkin Park, I loved the idea of performing in front of people.
My drumming heroes are Ginger Baker, Sheila E but my biggest is Jonathan “Sugarfoot'' Moffett. He has worked with the likes of The Jacksons, Stevie Wonder and Qunincy Jones.
The song I chose ‘Complex City’ is from Frank Corniola's Rhythm Section drumming book. It uses many different time signatures and has really tested me when I was learning this piece. I liked using the 9-stroke-roll in the piece.
My impact on the world has mostly been with school. My school is very involved with gender equality, human rights and our effect on the environment. Going to an all girls school we are taught about our rights as females and that there is no limit to what we can archive. I have participated in school fundraising to help communities in the Solomon Islands by performing and busking at school. I have joined the climate strikes held in the CBD.
My school was generous enough to allow me to come in the school holidays and record this video.
