I absolutely love playing the drums and percussion because not only is it fun but over the past few months, I have found that it has been therapeutic for me in ways I never would have imagined when I started the drums at the end of 2017. I began the drums because I have always been interested in producing sounds, rhythmically and in musical ways that I could communicate and understand. The drums have inspired me to push myself and travel out of my comfort zone - to expand my horizons. Entering the Hit Like a Girl contest was an idea that came to me later, as I had known about it and seen others enter but not once thought to enter, myself. I chose "DAYBREAK" by the artist Anomalie because it's groove and technicalities resonated with my musical interests and was a great way to step out of my comfort zone but still have fun! Likewise, I am glad that I am participating because I do believe that this is a good and helpful cause for female musicians all around the world. This platform provides us all the opportunity to present our skills and passion for what we do. Unfortunately, we are not always accepted, even still. Moreover, through my drumming, as well as my social media platforms, I am making an impact on the world by showing everyone that we all have voices and can use our voices in any way that we see fit - verbally and non-verbally. What matters is what we're saying and what we're using our words for - How we're using our words. Expression matters!
