Dana Helton

I’ve been taking lessons for 2 years now. I’ve always wanted to play but never made the time til now. It is definitely one of the most favorite things I do and I’m Looking forward to playing with a band one day - hopefully sooner than later! The challenge for me is to step out of my comfort zones and entering this competition is definitely outside my box. Please take note of the little nod to Neil Pert at the end.

Hi Dana! Congrats for taking that step outside of your comfort zone!! I enjoyed the enthusiasm in your playing and you packed a lot of different grooves into your video. One thing that helped me my first few years of playing, and really still does today, is to remember to breathe and relax the shoulders and hands when playing. And always remember to have fun:) Cheers!

Thanks for the advice. I’m having fun but you wouldn’t know it! I’ll definitely Practice relaxing and breathing as you suggested.

First off…you did something hardly seen here – you played something that you FELT inside. AN original exploration, so to speak. I love it. Tasteful transition to the HH groove, too. BUT….. I wanted to hear more TOM SAWYER!!! Your timing is very solid – among the first things a band would be looking for. You shouldn’t have any problem getting in a band soon sweetie.

    Hi Dana!
You did it! Great job. Starting off with the Bo Diddly beat is a bold move. I love it. The best way, in my opinion, to get better, is to be in a band. It forces you to practice and you’re likely to have to play stuff that’s a little out of your range so you always have something to work on. It worked for me anyhow. Rock on sister!

Thanks Lisa! I did it!! Just Putting myself out there for all
The world to see when I know I’m not the best is hard for me and I’m glad I did. I don’t know why I’m so weird about it. I hope to come
      See you play soon!

Dana, it’s great to know that you’re studying. Go ahead. I loved the end of your session when you play Tom Sawyer’s groove and mention Neil Peart. Good luck!
