When Claudia Paige asked at age seven to play the trumpet, her family couldn't really afford an instrument purchase -- and so her teacher suggested the drums, since then they'd only have to buy some sticks. This decision kickstarted a lifelong love affair, from which Claudia has never experienced even so much as a brief separation. Beginning with her high school band JAIN and continuing to the present day, Claudia has played and shared the stage with many renowned musicians, ranging from Bo Diddley and Jerry Garcia when she was a child to Zap Mama and Linda Perry when she was an adult. She has been sponsored for international tours by the Cannes Film Festival, Berlin Loft Concerts, and the United Nations and has performed in eleven countries and forty-eight of fifty states in the U.S. She also toured the country and co-composed music for the San Francisco Mime Troupe, a Tony-Award-winning theater company, for several years.
Claudia has a very eclectic drumming style, incorporating hand drums from around the world into her drum kit. Raised on swampy funky blues and a love for music from around the world, she fuses together world rhythms, with a funky groove and “solid in the pocket” feel to the music. Having moved from California to the Pacific Northwest in 2016, she plays with several local bands and choirs, continues working on her many original projects, and offers lessons through her own Octopus School of Drums, where she especially loves teaching girls to play.
