Caroline Scott

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my video. I have been playing drums since I was around 12 years old and music is a huge part of my life now. I live in London and play drums with as many groups as possible – everything from jazz orchestras, theatre shows, pop and reggae bands to funk and rock bands. I also love classical music and finally managed to save up for a set of timpani, which I play with the Amati Orchestra. I recently finished studying jazz drums at Trinity Laban in London, which was fully funded thanks to Archers and Trinity College London scholarships.

A couple of years ago I had to take time out from playing whilst recovering from open heart surgery to fix a heart condition I was born with. During that time away from the drums I decided to really dedicate myself to music and started to compose for a debut album. Then I ran a crowdfunding campaign to record the album – it was released in November 2018 and we did launch gigs at Pizza Express Soho and Ronnie Scott’s in London, which was a massive honour for me as a first-time band leader. The album is called Khoalesce and is on Bandcamp.

The tune in the video is called Brixton SAE. I had some free studio time at SAE Institute UK for one of their student sound engineer training workshops so I got together with some friends and Trinity alumni and wrote a tune for the occasion. It features the super-burning tenor saxophonist Duncan Eagles and mad piano skills of Dan Berkson alongside the dream team Chris Hyde-Harrison (bass) Owen Snider (guitar) Tim Quicke (trumpet) Jack Spencer (trombone) and the session was led by SAE teacher Antonio de Robertis.

My plan is to keep practicing and playing as much music as possible – I’d love to become an international touring drummer and to play consistently at the highest level.

I first entered Hit Like a Girl in 2015. I really enjoy seeing all the videos and hearing new drummers – it’s great that it’s creating a thriving community. Don’t be a stranger, feel free to get in touch on social media.
