Hi! My name is Caelyn Allman. I’m fourteen years old and from Chesapeake, Virginia. I have been interested in drumming since I was three years old. I got my first full size kit at age six, and started formal lessons at nine. It’s always been a passion of mine, and is something my parents don’t have to “make” me do!
For the last three years, I have enjoyed being a part of our adult worship team as one of the drummers at church. I participated in my school’s praise band for four years. I also am the drummer for a teen worship band. Last summer, I attended a weeklong camp for musicians. I was able to grow even more as a drummer, learn how to play the bass guitar, and also help form the teen band there. I really enjoy playing live with other musicians!
I enjoy all types of music. There are so many drummers I admire, but some of my favorites are: my drum teacher Matt Landon, Jen Ledger, Josh Dun, Chad Butler, Duncan Phillips, and Daniel Platzman.
Drumming is my passion, but I have many other interests. I am in my 11th year of dance; I enjoy playing volleyball, bass guitar, swimming, hanging out with friends, and being a part of my youth group.
For this year’s entry, I chose Anika Niles’ “Chary Life.” This is a drumless track that I chose to “make my own.” I produced, videoed, and recorded my entry by myself with guidance from my dad.
I’d like to thank God for giving me the gift of enjoying and playing music. I’d also like to thank my parents, family, friends, and members of our adult worship team for always supporting me. Thank you to my teacher, Matt Landon, for sharing his talents and always encouraging me to try my best. Thank you all at Hit Like A Girl for this opportunity! Good luck to all!
