Hey! I’m BB Mitchem and I’m sixteen years old. I’m from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I attend North River Christian Academy and I’m in the 11th grade. I have been playing drums for four years. I began my drum journey when I was in the 7th grade. The way I describe it is, I was drawn and intrigued by drums. I began playing and haven’t looked back since. Drums are a wonderful creative outlet where I can express myself. I truly love being a female drummer.
I would say my style of drumming is simplistic with a twist of modernism. When it comes to my playing, I keep it interesting, but I keep it simple, and it works! I’m more about the feeling of the beat rather than how many notes I’m playing, or how fast I’m playing. Being heavily inspired by the drummers of the 60s, I have learned how to make a huge impact with a simple beat.
There are many drummers/musicians who inspire my playing and inspire me as a person. First and foremost, my drum teacher and mentor, Pat Gerasia (The Violent). My other drumming/musical influences include Ronnie Tutt, Dave Grohl, Ringo Starr, Micky Dolenz, Mike Protich, Dave McGarry, Karen Carpenter, and John Bonham.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to my Hit Like A Girl 2021 Submission: God, my parents, Pat Gerasia, & Gavin Manning (thank you for all of your hard work!) and George Edmondson of Seed Creative, and all my friends!
I hope ya’ll enjoy my video!
