FORGOT YOUR DETAILS?

Audrey Stinson

From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a drummer. Growing up, I was the kid who was constantly listening to music. I remember as a toddler listening to the radio, focusing in on the drum parts, and playing along on whatever surface was available. By the time I was in fifth, grade I knew I had to make this dream a reality, so I put together a makeshift drum set with boxes and pillows, and got to work. I began practicing from books, magazines, online demonstrations, and anything else I could get my hands on. It was the summer going into my eighth grade year when I had finally saved up enough for a real drum set. From the moment I got it, my drum set became like my desk, where I got to sit and pour out my imagination. To this day, I have spent countless hours exploring different patterns and rudiment combinations.

Eventually, I took that big step to begin promoting my music. Over the years I have taken every opportunity to get myself out there by sitting in at jam sessions, playing at churches, becoming involved in my school music program, playing gigs in a local band, and creating my YouTube Channel, AudreyDrums:). Performing and getting involved was definitely a turning point in my career. Not only had it increased my confidence behind the set, but I learned my role as a percussionist in a variety of settings and situations.

When I was in eleventh grade I had the opportunity to take lessons, and that summer I auditioned and earned a scholarship for Berklee’s Percussion Weekend. These two amazing experiences allowed me to dig even deeper into the vast world of percussion. Currently, I am a high school senior, and I will be attending Berklee College of Music next year to continue pursuing my passion for drums. I live for drums every second of every day, and I will continue to strive to expand and grow as a musician for the rest of the days to come.

  5. I know firsthand how much drum set means to you; self-taught early on with your makeshift kit, saving up for a real, secondhand set (on your own) that you have nurtured and improved upon since obtaining it. We enjoy your practicing all hours of the day and night. You are a strong, motivated, self-made girl who takes nothing for granted. We love and support you!
