Hi, I am Anna Bernstein and I am 12 years old. I've been playing drums for around two years and started when I was 10. I first got into drums when I was eight years old and heard Tom Sawyer by Rush. I was instantly intrigued by Neil Peart’s drumming, so my dad showed me a few of his drum solos on You Tube. I immediately knew I wanted to be a drummer! Fast forward about 2 years, and I was starting my own lessons on a drum set. I've been lucky enough to study under Jeremy Hummel, founding member and former drummer for Breaking Benjamin. Some of my biggest drumming inspirations are Neil Peart, Tony Williams, Anika Niles, Chad Smith, Jeremy Hummel, John Bonham, Cindy Blackman Santana, Gene Krupa, Ginger Baker, Peter Erskine, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Mick Fleetwood, Benny Greb, Daniel Glass, Emmanuelle Caplette, and my favorite, Keith Moon, and so many more. I love playing almost all genres of music; but my favorites are funk, jazz, blues, Latin, and rock. Other than playing drums, I also take bass lessons and experiment on other instruments such as ukulele, piano, harmonica, and guitar. I love hearing, playing, and discussing music. I am in several bands, including Middle School Band, Middle School Jazz Band, Church Youth Praise Team; as well as two bands that play in local venues, Acoustic Moose & Squirrel and Split Rooster. Drumming has changed my life in so many ways and I can't be more grateful. I want to thank Hit Like a Girl for having this amazing competition and I hope you enjoy my submission. To all the other contestants, I wish you all the best of luck!
