Anna Gaby Ortiz
My name is Gaby Ortiz, I’m 16 years old and I’m from Mexico City. I started playing the drums at the age of 13, after attending my first concert ever. Watching Josh Dun playing the drums changed my life, since then everything I ever want to do is play the drums. I begged my mom to take me to drum lessons, she didn’t have a problem with it and she has always been so supportive in everything I do, as well as my dad. Playing the drums has been the best decision I have ever made in my life, music has given me the ability to channel my emotions into art and has been a major support for my mental health since day one. Even though I have always found a safe place behind the kit, as a female drummer I felt like the odd one out, until I found Hit Like a Girl, a beautiful community of amazing female drummers, percussionist, beat-makers and musicians all around the world, I found a safe place watching other talented girls doing what I love, such as Paulina Villareal, Faith Benson, Sarah Thawer, Domino Santantonio and Sarah Jones. My goal is to keep growing and learning as a drummer, musician and human, to inspire the future generations to hit like a girl. Finally I wanna thank HLAG for empowering women in music and to every female musician and music lover out there, for being you and using your voice against gender inequality in music.
