My name is Anna Bernstein. I am 13 years old, and I have been playing drums for 3 years.
I love performing with other musicians! I’ve recently been in the recording studio with my pop-rock band, Split Rooster, composed of 4 musicians aged 11-17. Split Rooster has singles on all of the major streaming platforms. Please check us out on www.splitrooser.com, Facebook, or Instagram.
I also perform with my school concert and jazz bands, the Central PA Friends of Jazz Youth Band, and Acoustic Moose & Squirrel (folk-rock trio with two adults).
I am becoming a multi-instrumentalist, playing drums, bass, guitar, ukulele, and -most recently – piano. I take drum lessons from Jeremy Hummel and Bruce Becker. I take a guitar and bass lessons from Justin Clauser, and keyboard lessons from Nashville touring musician and producer Brent McCullough.
My favorite drummers include Steve Smith, Todd Sucherman, Tony Williams, Emanuel Caplette, Anika Niles, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Daniel Glass, Terri Lyne Carrington, Stanton Moore, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Neal Peart, Elvin Jones, James Gadson, Dave Weckl, Ringo Starr, Joe Morello and more.
This year, I chose to perform to a drumless track of Subdivisions from Rush, as a tribute to my dad’s all-time favorite musician, Neal Peart. This song is a good challenge for me, because the style is different from the jazz/funk/fusion which I normally play. Also, I’m only using a four-piece kit, which is “just a few less” drums than Neal would use.
