My name is Anastasia McCoy, and I’m from the United States. I started playing drums about 4 years ago, and haven’t looked back since. I originally started playing after I saw Twenty-One Pilots’ drummer Josh Dun on a platform playing drums while the crowd held him up, and I was amazed. Over time, I’ve since gravitated towards hard-hitting rock and metal. I watch Tommy Lee’s solos in a cage online in awe, hoping that I could do the same thing. I drum just for the pure joy I get from seeing people happy and dancing to the music that I’m playing and creating. All of my success and what I’ve been able to achieve so far has been thanks to my drum instructor, Billy Canty. As a professional drummer, he has provided me with the skills I need to become successful in the music industry and taught me about the business of being a musician. He has influenced my drumming most, and I am very thankful to have had the chance to study with him. Along with Billy, my favorite drummers are Chad Smith, Travis Barker, Tommy Lee, Mike Portnoy, and Trey Gray, not just because of their talent, but because of their perseverance, kindness, and love for their career. I chose to perform Rush’s “YYZ” because I wanted to challenge myself to learn it and to play it. I knew it was a difficult song, and I’m proud that I was able to do it. Thank you so much to Trey Gray, Andy Peck, Dirty White Couch Studios, and Graham Jones for making this video possible!
