Anastasia McCoy

My name is Anastasia McCoy, and I’m from the United States. I started playing drums about 4 years ago, and haven’t looked back since. I originally started playing after I saw Twenty-One Pilots’ drummer Josh Dun on a platform playing drums while the crowd held him up, and I was amazed. Over time, I’ve since gravitated towards hard-hitting rock and metal. I watch Tommy Lee’s solos in a cage online in awe, hoping that I could do the same thing. I drum just for the pure joy I get from seeing people happy and dancing to the music that I’m playing and creating. All of my success and what I’ve been able to achieve so far has been thanks to my drum instructor, Billy Canty. As a professional drummer, he has provided me with the skills I need to become successful in the music industry and taught me about the business of being a musician. He has influenced my drumming most, and I am very thankful to have had the chance to study with him. Along with Billy, my favorite drummers are Chad Smith, Travis Barker, Tommy Lee, Mike Portnoy, and Trey Gray, not just because of their talent, but because of their perseverance, kindness, and love for their career. I chose to perform Rush’s “YYZ” because I wanted to challenge myself to learn it and to play it. I knew it was a difficult song, and I’m proud that I was able to do it. Thank you so much to Trey Gray, Andy Peck, Dirty White Couch Studios, and Graham Jones for making this video possible!

I would like to say that in keeping with the tradition of the way I personally teach…
Ana did this. Not me. I just provided the info that was desired.
Ana learned YYZ on her own. Sort of a coming of age thing.
Sort of makes you think back to your younger days? Lol
SHE charted it out and wrote it out for ME.
I THEN answered questions and micro corrected.
    This is Ana 99%!
By the way. Without instruction this little bad ass subbed a entire gig for me in the moment when I fell ill at a show recently.
No practice. No set list. No heads up.
She stepped up and nailed it to the utmost professional standards that my band members expect from any adult pro drummer.
I highly recommend Ana for your program.

    Thank you,
    Billy Canty

Ana is an amazing, sweet, down to earth young lady, from a wonderful, supportive family, and loved by everyone she comes in contact with. It has been pure joy to watch her skills grow so quickly in such a short time. I feel so lucky to be able to watch this very talented 15 year old become one of our local music scene’s rock stars.

I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who has voted, left comments, and supported me not just during this contest but through my journey as a musician. I never would have thought that I could have had over 50 votes, let alone 100 and I am so eternally grateful to all who have helped and supported me. I can never forget how kind and thoughtful everyone has been, and I appreciate how everyone has inspired and encouraged me to continue to grow and play music. Thank you all again, I love you all 💕💕
