Hi guys! My name is Adrienne Johnson. I am 28 yrs old, and I have been playing drums for 19 years. When I first started out on my musical journey I wanted to play piano, but when I saw my cousins playing drums at church I became hooked to the instrument. Although I had the desire to play, I was very rhythmically challenged. I lacked coordination for lack of a better term, and it was so bad I was practically banned from the kit. One night I got on my knees and prayed to God asking Him to give me the gift to play drums and if He did I would give my life to Him. Next church service my cousins hasn't arrived and it was time to start, so I took this opportunity to ask my mom if I could play at least until my cousins arrived. At first she said no, and no again, and no again. Ikr! Finally she yes(whoo!). I got on the drums and started playing, and the rest is history. Playing drums is not just an instrument to me its who I am. It's a gift God has given me and I humbly and proudly dedicate it to Him. As you can see God is my biggest influence, other influences include Chris Coleman, Tony Royster, and Gavin Harrison. The track I chose to play to is Gaia by Kaz Rodriguez originally I was going to do another song his, but Gaia pulled me in and more I played to it the more it felt right to play. I'm not going to take you on the journey of drum lingo, I just want you to feel the journey as I did. I wanted to wander and when I felt expression greet me, I gladly replied. I'm happy to be a girl drummer, especially in an instrument that's male driven, but us girls are pushing over the guys saying we can we be just as good. I still get the looks, but I'm happy to know I don't play for their approval. I play for God and my own enjoyment. This is my story and for all who want to know I did fulfill my commitment to the Lord and I'm so glad for it. Be blessed and enjoy!
