Hi there! I’m Shannon. I’ve been playing off and on since 1989 when I started taking lessons in Germany when I was an exchange student. I’ve played in cover and original bands, in pits for theater shows, a community orchestra, in large stadiums, and even a car commercial. I’m not flashy or showy, but I know people like to play with me because I lock in with the bass player and settle into the pocket. If I don’t know the song, I’ll make it up best I can. I like to think many things don’t phase me when I play, I even left a flub I had with my stick in my video because that’s real life!
My influences are big and mighty – Steve Smith, Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, John Bonham, Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins – the last 2 lead me to pick this song. I played it in a cover band years ago and loved it, so I dusted it off as a tribute to Taylor.
I do this for fun, I have no illusions of becoming famous and going on the road. I haven’t played in a band since the beginning of 2020 (and all that came with that.) I’ve played a few open jams in the last year, and I love the reaction I get from the people who have jammed with me in the past when I walk in the door. Even more fun to me is opening a can of female drumming whoop-rump on those who dismiss me because I’m a gal. I love that I’ve been able to play all these years and am looking forward to more playing adventures in the future.
