Hi, my name is Mia Chuss, and I am 12 years old. I have been playing drums ever since I was 6, and I started taking lessons at 7. Ever since I started playing the drums, I’ve felt like I had something to prove. It always seemed that just because I am a girl, people are surprised that I play drums. My parents have always been supportive, and so have the people at the Main Line School of Rock, where I take lessons. Sometimes though, I think people pre-judge me because I am a girl. In every show I do, I work hard to show everyone that I can rise to each new challenging song. I never stop working as hard as I can, and I always am pushing myself to get better. When I feel like someone is overlooking me, I make sure that they are unable to ignore me. My hope for the future of music is that people stop referring to me as a “girl drummer”; I’m a drummer.
